Kristen Alfa

Not just another Ragdoll!

Danny Northside - Wednesday, October 15, 2008

October 2008
Age: 22
Birthplace: Long Island,NY
Fav Movie: Beetlejuice
Website: Model Mayhem

Based on the theme of our October Gore Girl's shoot, along side per makeup design name, you'd think that Kristen would have a thing for children's playthings (or taxidermy!), but deep down she's just a film and theater nerd that's blossomed into a full fledged special effects freak.

Kristen Alfa started working with her local community theater back in New York at the age of 5, when her parents suggested acting classes to get her out of her shell. Seventeen year later she's still at it, and then some. After years of acting, she decided to declare it as her official major in college. After taking some necessary pre-requisites she was introduced into the world of special effects makeup. "I did makeup for a few productions here and there in high school, but it wasn't until I got to play with liquid latex and stage blood for the first time that I realized how much fun it was!

"I've always been a huge fan of the campy horror flicks, now i just strive to be part of a new generation's cult classic." she added, "I still love acting, but let's face it. Everyone wants to be an actor, but few people have the skills to be the makeup artist."

And she may be well on her way, considering she's worked on her first two films in the valley alongside our August Gore Girl, Mandie, with Synthetic Human Productions. She designed the makeup for their film Her Special Day, and just finished working with the crew again on the 72 hour film challenge (a film called RomanABottle). Not to mention several other films and web series she has in the mix for the next few months.

She doesn't stop there-- she's also available to photographers and models for photo shoots! If you're interested in Kristen's services, you can view her Model Mayhem profile at www.modelmayhem.com/ragdolldesigns  or her myspace at www.myspace.com/alfington  She's still working on getting her website up and running.

Special thanks to Martin Hazine of Glossyworks Photography for the awesome pictures, and to C. for making a wickedly creepy ragdoll.

ICSYB - What was the first movie that really attracted you to your love of B-movies?

KA- I'd have to say that'd probably be Plan 9 From Outer Space. I became a BIG Edward D. Wood Jr. fan after seeing Ed Wood. Although Evil Dead is very close second, considering my utter obsession with Bruce Campbell. And Zombies.

ICSYB- If you had to choose…Fast or slow zombies?

Yea!KA- Slooooow zombies, for two reasons. one: it's classic. Night of the living dead scared the crap outta me when I was a kid. two: you get to see more flesh decay detail if they're not moving as fast! haha!

ICSYB – What was one of your scariest bad dreams?

KA- Dude! My brother is 10 years older than I am, right? So when I was 4 my brother made me watch one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies with the lights off, and at the scariest part of the movie... he leaves the room and sneaks back in a full Freddy costume. Scared the SHIT out of me! I had nightmares that Freddy pops out of the TV and kills me and my family for like.... 8 years after that. Thanks a lot, big brother!

ICSYB - Yea, I had Freddy issues too. If you woke up tomorrow to find that the dead had risen and you could only use one weapon to defend yourself, what would you use?

KA- Have you played Dead Rising at all? Two words. The Excavator.

Very sweet of you!ICSYB - Yea I am still playing Excitebike on old school Nintendo! If you could pick any celebrity you would like to see get slaughtered beyond recognition in a horror flick who would you choose and why?

KA- I’d have to say Miley Cyrus or whatever. I hear the church of scientology is trying to recruit her and basically make her the next Tom Cruise. now that i think of it... i wouldn't mind seeing Tom Cruise get devoured by zombies or get hacked to pieces....

ICSYB – Is there a horror icon you would totally get busy with?

KA- i don't know if you'd really consider him a horror icon... but I’ve always had kind of a twisted crush on Alex from A Clockwork Orange or Kevin from Sin City. i just giggle like a young schoolgirl whenever i see either of them on screen. is that weird?

ICSYB - What is one of your favorite death scenes in a film?

KA- in one of the nightmare on elm street movies ( I can't remember which one) Freddy pulls all the veins out of some dude and uses them like puppet strings. it was campy as hell. I loved it!

ICSYB - It was the Dream Warriors, for the record!
